The best way to learn English!

by Andrew Wright with reference to Professor Stephen Krashen

There are many research projects related to language learning; of the largest areas is based on reading. to Professor Stephen Krashen it has been proved again again that a significant time spent on reading in foreign language is the most effective way of improving, only ones reading skills but also ones general mastery the foreign language.

Here are some of the 88 which he makes about Free Voluntary Reading.

He emphasises the student must choose what to read, when and much and must not be persecuted with comprehension tests other drills. He argues that the student should choose, read, enjoy and absorb. There should be wide range of reading texts for the students to from. Encouragement helps but rewards do not... according to research he refers to.

Some points he makes based on research:

1 Free reading leads to as good or better results than controlled reading in 51 out of 54 studies.

2 Free reading also leads to improved skills in writing, spelling and vocabulary.

3 Free reading over a long period also leads to the establishment of the reading habit.

4 Free reading leads to more positive attitudes and fewer discipline problems in schools.

5 The benefits of free reading apply to the learning of all languages and at all ages.

Why not go to his website and check all of these out directly from him!

And you can watch him on YouTube as well. He is an amusing and effective speaker.
