Present Perfect versus simple Past
 
 EXAMPLE EXPLANATION
 Last year, she graduated from high school.  Use the simple past to talk about something that happened at a specific time in the past
 He lived in this house from 2010 to 2012.  

Use the simple past to show when something happened.

 They have run a marathon. 
 He has been to Mexico.  
Use the present perfect when you talk about something that happened in the past without mentioning a specific time it happened. The experience is more important than when it happened.
 I have been to Spain. I went there about 10 years ago and traveled all over. People were open and friendly to me. Use the present perfect to introduce the general idea Use simple and traveled all over. Past to give specific detail.

 There is a film festival. Robert loves classic movies, and so he is planning to invite some friends to a movie on Saturday night. He wants to suggest a movie that nobody has seen. Use the information above to help him choose.
 
Ana has seen the movie at the Coronet.
Patty and Mark went to the Metro last night.
Karen went to the Balboa on Tuesday to se the movie that started at 8:30.
Tom went to the Glaxy last weekend.
Carolyn and Terry have seen the movie at the Regency.
Robert went to the Balboa and saw the movie that started at 8:40.
 
 
Use the information to answer the questions. The first one has been done for you.
