WHAT IS INTELLIGENCE?

BATTLE OF THE BRAINS

Seven successful people from very different (1) were submitted to an intelligence
test. The winner has to be fantastically creative and (2)  / .

The experiments tries to  see how it’s possible to compare the intelligence of such different

people and find out if there’s one intelligence that allows us to solve all kinds of problems and

 answers all questions.

The IQ test has been around for over (3) . It seems to have the property to show that

we all have an all-purpose (4)   skill that can be represented by a single number: the

 IQ score.

The IQ test consists of many sections that seem unconnected, for example:

           Section 2 is vocabulary and (5) /.

           Section 3 is a (6) test.

           Section 4 tests spatial ability.

Although common sense might tell us that you might be good at some of these sections and bad

at others, it’s actually not true. On average if you are good at one section you tend to be good at

(7) .

The IQ test might say something about your health or even (8) / .  In 1931

every  eleven-year-old in Scotland was put through an IQ test. Years later, when they were about

80 years old they took the same test.  Research in Scotland showed that children who had a (9)

IQ at the age of eleven are still alive.

IQ is actually only a small component of intelligence. According to professor Howard Gardner

speaking about one intelligence is a mistake; we  should talk about (10)

intelligence instead. To understand better  this theory, the seven candidates were given new

activities to test other  intelligences: bodily or kinesthetic, creativity, emotional, etc.

In first place there was an interesting (11) . Quantum physicist was top 1 in the

standard IQ test, but when all the tests were taken across, he shared scores with the dramatist.

The result suggests that the IQ test might be (12)  different kinds of high fliers*.

*High-flyer/high-flier: a person of great ability, especially in a career.
