COMMERCIAL SPACE TRANSPORTATION:

Cygnus was launched on Orbital's Antares rocket on Sept. 18 from the Mid-Atlantic Region at NASAs Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia.

After 23-day stay on a demonstration cargo resupply mission, Cygnuswas released from the International Space Station at 7:31 a.m. EDT on Tuesday, Oct. 22. The spacecraft delivered about 1,300 pounds (589 kilograms) of cargo, including food, clothing and student experiments. Prior to its departure, Cygnus was loaded with items no longer needed aboard the station.
DESCRIPTION
The cargo module of Cygnus Spacecraft is about 5.1 meters long. The diameter of this cargo unit is 3.05 meters.
Two solar wings of gallium arsenide are fixed to it. They arecapable of putting out 3.5 kilowatts of electricity.
With a total mass of 1700 kilograms, TheCygnus pressurized cargo modulecan carry up to 5952 pounds (2700 kilograms) of payload to the International Space Station.
The Antares rocket, where the module is placed,is 131 feet (40 meters) tall. It weighs 530000 pounds (240000 kilograms).
